Andrii LIUBIMENKO, a student at KhNUIA's Barrier-Free Driving School and combat veteran, who currently works as a psychologist in the personnel department at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, took part in an informative event presenting the Barrier-Free project. The event was organised by the service centres of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil and Chernivtsi regions.

During the meeting, participants communicated with veterans who suffered injuries and amputations as a result of combat operations, as well as with military personnel who, after returning from the front, help their comrades to re-equip vehicles. Participants discussed the opportunities offered by the Barrier-Free Driving Schools project, learned about ways to restore mobility and regain confidence in their own abilities, and visited the Recovery Rehabilitation Centre in Khmelnytskyi region.

Andrii LIUBIMENKO shared with veterans his own experience of completing a practical and theoretical training course at a driving school and talked about the mechanism for implementing the state programme of reimbursement of expenses for persons in privileged categories. He noted: "I wanted to learn to drive a car for a long time. For me, it's all about mobility and independence. I converted my car when I found out about the barrier-free driving school. I went to the Department of Social Protection, filled out the necessary paperwork, and started training. At the driving school, I not only gained knowledge, but also confidence in my own abilities. It's a path to a new life".

At the end of the meeting, each participant had the opportunity to familiarise themselves with an adapted car equipped with a manual control system and try it out in practice.
