A national-patriotic event dedicated to honoring the courage and feat of the defenders of Ukraine was held at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. An honorary participant was an employee of the university, a veteran of the assault regiment "Tsunami" of the Joint Assault Brigade of the Special Purpose Police "Liut", police sergeant Ihor SHEVCHUK.
The meeting was attended by the Rector of the university, Police General of the third rank Valerii SOKURENKO, assistant to the head of the Department of the Special Purpose Police of the OSHB "Liut", police lieutenant colonel Viacheslav VUSINSKYI, higher education students and scientific and pedagogical workers.

The solemn event was the presentation of the state award - the medal "Defender of the Fatherland" to Ihor SHEVCHUK. Congratulating, Valerii SOKURENKO noted: “The profession of a police officer has acquired special significance today, because the police are an integral part of the Security and Defense Forces of Ukraine. All who serve in its ranks are ready to carry out the tasks set forth in our motto: “To Serve and Protect.”

Viacheslav VUSINSKYI congratulated his comrade and emphasized: “Awarding Ihor SHEVCHUK with the “Defender of the Fatherland” medal has a deep meaning. This is an expression of gratitude to all veterans who went through the hell of war. Supporting such people and honoring the memory of the fallen is our moral duty.”

Ihor SHEVCHUK, a participant in hostilities, thanked the university community for their trust and emphasized the importance of understanding the needs of veterans on the part of future law enforcement officers: “Many veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war need and will need support and understanding. I wish you to wear your uniform with dignity and remember that you are representatives of the Ukrainian state.”

At the end of the event, the Rector noted: “Thanks to the courage and sacrifice of such Heroes as Ihor SHEVCHUK, the authority of the National Police of Ukraine is growing. We are glad to welcome such people to our team. We invite representatives of the Joint Assault Brigade “Lyut” to new meetings with young people. Our common goal is the victory of Ukraine, in which we firmly believe.”
