The Day of the State Flag and the Day of the Independence of Ukraine are a memory of the generations of our ancestors who fought for the right to live in their own state - free and independent Ukraine. Traditionally, all celebrations at the university begin with the raising of the State Flag of Ukraine accompanied by the performance of the National Anthem.

And today, like a century ago, under the blue-yellow banner, our defenders continue to defend their native land from the Russian aggressor, who seeks to destroy the Ukrainian nation, culture and history.

The personnel of Educational and Research Institutes No. 1–4 and the university leadership took part in the solemn events that took place at all locations of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.

Those present performed the National Anthem of Ukraine. A minute of silence was observed to honor the bright memory of the defenders who gave their lives for a free and independent Ukraine, after which they laid flowers at the monument to the fallen patriots of Ukraine.

The Rector of the university, Police General of the third rank Valerii Sokurenko, congratulated those present on the Day of the National Flag and the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of Independence of Ukraine: “August 24 is a day when we especially acutely feel the price of freedom. Thirty-five years of Independence of Ukraine are the years of the formation of our state, its establishment in the world and the struggle for the right to be masters of our own land. Today, the Independence of Ukraine is defended as the right of every Ukrainian to live freely, speak their native language, raise children on their own land and determine the future of their country. Thanks to the support of the state leadership, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, as well as the leadership of city and regional councils, on the territory of which the university units are located, we have the opportunity to continue teaching and learning, to ensure the training of future law enforcement officers and to work for our common Victory. We will definitely return to our native Kharkiv, to our powerful and large university base, and continue to develop the university and train a new generation of law enforcement officers. We will certainly stand firm, because behind Ukraine is the truth, strength of spirit and the indomitability of its people. Our Independence has been won by generations and today is defended at the cost of the courage and lives of the best sons and daughters of Ukraine. With deep respect, we bow our heads to the memory of the Heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine. We sincerely thank our defenders, police officers, rescuers, doctors and everyone who brings our Victory closer every day. I wish everyone good health, strength, endurance, family warmth and peaceful skies. May the blue-yellow Flag always fly over a free, strong and independent Ukraine!»

During the celebrations, employees and cadets of the university were awarded departmental incentive awards, certificates of honor and thanks. For conscientious performance of official duties, high professionalism, significant achievements in professional activity and success in studies, they were also awarded special titles.

At the end of the event, performances were held by the drummers' unit, as well as amateur artistic groups of the university, who presented patriotic and choreographic compositions.
