Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs honored the feat of Kruty Heroes
НАВС

The Battle of Kruty on January 29, 1918, which became a symbol of heroism and self-sacrifice of young representatives of our people in the struggle for independence, in the historical and patriotic-educational dimension is a valuable reference point for the current and future generations of defenders of the Ukrainian state.

On the occasion of the Day of Remembrance of Kruty Heroes, events were held at all locations of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, in which students and university employees participated.

With a minute of silence, those present honored the bright memory of the heroes, all defenders who gave the most precious thing for a free, independent Ukraine - their lives.

On behalf of the Rector of the University, Valerii SOKURENKO, First Vice-Rector Viktor VASYLENKO addressed those present: “The feat of Kruty Heroes is an eternal symbol of courage, patriotism and self-sacrifice of the Ukrainian people. They left us an example that inspires new generations to fight for the integrity and independence of Ukraine. Your task today is to acquire knowledge and skills to serve the Ukrainian people with dignity, protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, and the territorial integrity of the state. Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!

Vice-Rector Serhii BORTNYK reminded those present of the main facts about the events of January 1918 and compared the historical situation at that time with the Ukrainian present: “107 years have passed, and we are once again forced to defend our own freedom and unity, territorial integrity and independence of our state. The modern Ukrainian army inherited the glorious fighting traditions of its ancestors and will always cherish the names of heroes: Cossack warriors, Sich riflemen, soldiers of the Army of the UNR and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, as well as the heroes of the modern Russian-Ukrainian war.” Serhii BORTNYK read Pavlo Tychyna's poem "In Memory of the Thirty", dedicated to the young men who died in the battle near Kruty, who were buried in Kyiv at Askold's Grave.

The festivities ended with patriotic compositions "They Will Not Be Returned" and "They Will Live in Our Hearts...", prepared by the university's amateur art collective.
