From Radio Communications to Artificial Intelligence: KhNUIA Cadets at EPS 2026
НАВС

Cadets of Educational and Research Institute No. 4 of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs Roman Stetsyk, Yaroslav Kamianskyi, Yaroslav Mykhailiuk, and Myroslav Palamarchuk took part in EPS 2026 (Engineering Project Sprint), an intensive programme in applied engineering development. The event was organised by Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, NDA Recruitment, and the NGO “Union of Mechanical Engineers.”

Participants worked in teams on technical tasks under the guidance of experienced mentors. The intensive culminated in a Demo Day, where the teams presented their work to company representatives.

Roman Stetsyk and Yaroslav Kamianskyi chose the Communication Systems track. They studied radio signal propagation and the factors that affect radio channel stability. This knowledge is important for future cybersecurity specialists, since understanding how wireless systems work helps assess the risks of signal interception and jamming and take them into account when building secure data transmission channels.

Yaroslav Mykhailiuk and Myroslav Palamarchuk worked in the Applied AI track, training and testing neural network models for computer vision, in particular object detection and tracking. Such skills may also prove useful in cybersecurity, where machine learning technologies are used for anomaly detection and monitoring automation. Understanding the capabilities and limitations of the models helps evaluate their results and use these tools responsibly.

In addition to technical knowledge, the cadets improved their teamwork skills: they distributed tasks, coordinated decisions, and worked under time constraints, sharing responsibility for the result.
