Volodymyr Zhytkevych, another graduate of the Barrier-Free Driving School at Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, successfully passed the exam and received his Category B driver’s license.

The 33-year-old Volodymyr previously worked as an electrician. As a result of a workplace accident, he sustained an injury and has been living with a prosthetic arm for 8 years. With a smile, he says: “I used to work with my hands – now I work with my mind.” He currently works as a manager at an electricity supply company.

He studied the theoretical part independently and passed the theory exam on his first attempt.

“I learned about the driving school in Odesa online. I’m very glad that there is a project that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to learn, take exams, and receive driver’s licenses. I had no prior driving experience, but I was lucky with the instructors. I am very satisfied with the hand-controlled car I used for the exam. My dreams are coming true,” Volodymyr shares.

He also noted the high level of organization of the training and the barrier-free access to all locations.

Barrier-Free Driving Schools (https://driveability.mvs.gov.ua/) are a flagship project of the Ministry of Internal Affairs within the initiative of the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, “Without Barriers,” aimed at creating equal opportunities for everyone who wants to learn to drive.

“Many people with disabilities want to be independent. This project gives us the chance to feel self-reliant. I am convinced that anyone can achieve their goals if they have a dream and belief in themselves. It opens up a whole universe for us,” Volodymyr emphasizes.
