The event brought together representatives of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs from among the academic staff and students, other higher education institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and participants of the School of Scientific Leadership of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. The event was opened by Tetiana Matiushkova, Head of the International Cooperation Department. She outlined the topic and programme of the event.
Olha Kurykina, a representative of the Horizon Europe Office in Ukraine of the National Research Foundation of Ukraine, PhD in Economics, presented information on the competitions of the Programme. She presented information on the Horizon Europe Programme's competitions under the third cluster ‘Civilian Security for Society’, which aims to develop innovations and research that ensure the security of citizens, society and infrastructure, highlighted the scope and thematic areas of the cluster, outlined the amount of funding for the programme, and provided statistics on Ukraine's applications for the third cluster of the Horizon Europe Programme in 2024. The speaker made a comparative analysis of the number of submitted and accepted applications and provided the audience with useful links that will help prepare new project applications for participation in this programme next year.
Oleksii Serdiuk, Head of the Research Laboratory of Social and Psychological Support, Assistance and Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (training of specialists for the preventive activity units of the National Police of Ukraine) of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, acting as the National Contact Point (NCP) of the Horizon Europe Programme in Ukraine in the area of Civilian Security for Society, provided a lot of detailed information about the third cluster in the area of Civilian Security for Society. The participants of the information event learned about the following areas: ‘Risk Prevention and Response, Cybersecurity, Fighting Crime and Terrorism, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Border Security, and Supporting Society's Preparedness for Crises. The speaker also revealed additional conditions for participation in certain areas, the fundamental criteria for selecting project applications, the main challenges faced by development teams, and ways to overcome them.
Oleksandr Chemerys, Deputy Director for Research at Pukhov Institute for Modelling Problems in Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, representative of the National Programme Committee of the Horizon Europe Programme in Ukraine, defined interdisciplinarity in the Horizon Europe Programme as a key principle that contributes to solving complex global challenges by combining knowledge and methods from different scientific and technological fields. The speaker also introduced the successful projects of the Programme, open calls and upcoming events under the third cluster ‘Civilian Security for Society’, outlined the opportunities of the Horizon Europe NCP network for the scientific and educational community, law enforcement agencies, government agencies, enterprises and NGOs.
At the end of the event, the participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and received comprehensive answers from the speakers, who emphasised the practical and scientific value of participating in the projects of the Horizon Europe Programme.
