In order to increase professional competence and improve mechanisms for the protection of human rights in official activities in Kyiv held a training on the topic «Human rights, inclusiveness and protection of victims: police response to hate crimes and sexualized and gender-based violence». The event brought together police officers and representatives from different regions of Ukraine to exchange experience and practical developments. Anastasiia Vuima, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminalistics and Forensic Science of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, joined the training.

The participants considered the issues of ensuring human rights and freedoms in the work of the police, the peculiarities of detecting and documenting hate crimes, as well as the principles of an inclusive approach in working with victims. Particular attention is paid to compliance with non-discrimination standards and effective communication with citizens.

The training program included practical cases, discussion of problematic issues of official activity and active exchange of experience between representatives of various police units.

The training was supported by public organizations «Ukrainian Association of Law Enforcement Representatives» and «Gender Stream» in cooperation with the Danish International Development Agency and the Danish Refugee Council. This made it possible to create favorable conditions for the exchange of experience and practice of practical skills in the field of human rights protection and an inclusive approach in the work of the police. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Kateryna Pavlichenko joined the event with a welcome speech.

Police officers will apply the acquired knowledge and practical skills in their daily work to increase the effectiveness of responding to offenses, ensure proper protection of victims and strengthen guarantees of compliance with the rights and freedoms of citizens.
