Illia Kuznetsov and Serhii Chernov, the 2nd year cadets from the Faculty of Preventive Activity, were on their way to the hostel after providing public security during Easter holidays.
According to the guys, they have just got off the train, as a guard from “ATB” supermarket approached to them and pointed at a retreating man.
“The guard thought we were police officers, he hasn’t even noticed we were cadets. He explained quickly that the man had snatched several bottles of alcohol from the supermarket, and we rushed to catch him”, Serhii Chernov told.
As soon as the thief noticed he was being pursued by police officers, he tried to run away. However, cadets caught him in 1.5 km and detained. Afterwards they called the police fast, notified their course officer on the incident and remained there until patrol police officers came.
Cadets comment: “Before the operative group came the thief attempted to run away, suggested “reaching an agreement” and even tried to convince passers-by that we applied power towards him”. Nevertheless, guys were fixing the whole process from the very beginning of following the thief with a mobile phone camera, and gave evidence to patrol police.
“Neither doubt: we knew that he was a wrongdoer, who must be punished. We perfectly knew what to do, since we had obtained necessary skills of tactical and special training as well as administrative materials making at the university thanks to our teachers”, Illia Kuznetsov stated.
The wrongdoer was transported to Shevchenkivskyi police unit. Criminal proceedings under part 1 of Art. 185 (theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine has been initiated. The investigation is in process.
