On 23 September, fourth-year cadets of the Faculty of Training of Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine at Odesa State University of Internal Affairs paid a study visit to the State Institution “Odesa Correctional Colony (No. 14)”.

The cadets were welcomed by Vadym Bernatskyi, First Deputy Head of the Institution; Oleh Shynkariov, Deputy Head of the Institution for Social, Educational and Psychological Work; and Natalia Kovarzhykova, Head of the Social and Psychological Service Unit, under the leadership of Volodymyr Kopylchuk, Head of the Institution.

The specialists familiarized the cadets with the structure and main tasks of the correctional facility, the procedure for executing criminal sentences, the specifics of the regime governing the detention of convicted persons, as well as the organization of supervision, security and resocialization of persons serving sentences.

During the visit, the cadets toured key facilities of the institution, including:

• residential premises for convicted persons;

• production workshops;

• exercise yards;

• rooms for visits and the provision of legal assistance;

• premises for educational and preventive activities.

For the first time, the cadets also had an opportunity to visit the investigation and disciplinary isolation units located on the premises of the colony and learn about their purpose, including the conduct of investigative activities and the detention of convicted persons for violations of established rules.
