Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics at the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, PhD in Law, Police Major Olena Marchenko, together with forensic specialist of the Forensic Support Unit of the Investigation Department of Odesa District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Region, Police Captain Anastasiia Antova, Senior Forensic Specialist Police Captain Yevheniia Honcharenko, and Forensic Specialist Police Captain Serhii Rudenko, conducted a practical binary class on the topic “The Procedural Status and Forms of Participation of a Forensic Specialist in Criminal Proceedings.”


Thanks to the involvement of practitioners, cadets of the Faculty for Training Specialists for the Pre-Trial Investigation Units of the National Police of Ukraine received answers to relevant questions regarding cooperation between an investigator and a forensic specialist, and also gained practical skills in collecting and forming evidence “on hot pursuit.”


During the practical session, the participants discussed the use of specialized knowledge and the procedural forms of involving a forensic specialist; the algorithm of interaction between an investigator and a forensic specialist when collecting biological evidence; the use of a modern forensic kit and tools for detecting papillary ridge traces (fingerprints); as well as the application of technical equipment and the procedure for adding remarks and comments by a forensic specialist to the protocol.
