Аn introductory seminar for higher education students on the topic “Improvised Explosive Devices” was held at Odesa State University of Internal Affairs. The speaker of the event was Inspector of the Explosives Service Unit of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Police Operations Support Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Region, Police Lieutenant Viktor Papuk.


During the seminar, participants gained a systematic understanding of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), their purpose, and specific features of use. The lecturer provided a detailed overview of the general structure of IEDs, possible components, and the principles of operation of various mechanisms that may be included in their composition. Special attention was given to the classification of such devices and the criteria for their differentiation.


The session also covered tactics of IED deployment, the most likely locations for their placement, and methods of concealment. Significant emphasis was placed on procedures for detecting explosive devices, identifying warning signs, and algorithms of actions in case of discovery.


Particular attention was given to safety measures that must be observed in order to preserve life and health.
