OSUIA hosted an optional Speaking Club session for higher education students, featuring Barry Vredeveld, a citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and an advisor/trainer on police-community relations with the European Union Advisory Mission on Civilian Security Sector Reform in Ukraine.

The meeting focused on the specifics of criminal proceedings and was titled «From the Moment of Arrest to the Trial».

The participants discussed the main stages of the criminal process, from the arrest of a person to the referral of the case to court. Particular attention was paid to the legal grounds for applying coercive procedural measures, as well as to the observance of human rights at all stages of the proceedings.

During the session, the speaker discussed the procedures for arrest and detention, the specifics of documenting procedural actions, and modern approaches to conducting interrogations in accordance with the principles of legality and professional ethics.

The issues of temporary detention, pretrial detention, and procedural safeguards for individuals involved in criminal proceedings were addressed separately.
