OSUIA: V International Scientific Conference «Maritime Security of the Baltic-Black Sea Region: Challenges and Threats»

The 5th International Scientific Conference «Maritime Security of the Baltic-Black Sea Region: Challenges and Threats» was held at OSUIA. The conference was organized at a high professional and organizational level, bringing together scientists, experts, representatives of maritime institutions, and educational institutions from different countries. The event comprehensively covered a range of key issues that determine the current state and prospects for the development of maritime security in the Baltic-Black Sea region.

The scientific event was opened by the university rector, police colonel Viacheslav Davydenko.

The director of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Police Captain Oleksandr Tarasenko; People's Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OSUIA Oleksii Leonov; Head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Odesa region, Third Rank Police General Ivan Zhuk; Head of the Southern Regional Administration of the State Border Guard Service, Major General Yurii Petriv; Director of the Territorial Department of the State Bureau of Investigation located in Mykolaiv, Oleksandr Kozlenko, and other guests of honor.

Conference participants presented in-depth reports on current challenges to maritime security, including threats to freedom of navigation, risks to port and logistics infrastructure, and the specifics of protecting energy corridors and international trade routes. Considerable attention was paid to analyzing mechanisms for intergovernmental cooperation, issues of operational information exchange, coordination of maritime operations, and enhancing the collective resilience of the region. A separate area of discussion was the environmental aspects of maritime security, including ecosystem risks caused by man-made and military factors.

The participants came to a common conclusion that the development of an effective maritime security system is only possible with balanced cooperation between states, scientific institutions, and relevant international organizations. That is why the conference emphasized the importance of deepening scientific and analytical research, developing inter-university partnerships, introducing modern monitoring technologies, and modernizing maritime infrastructure.

The event was marked by a high level of professional dialogue, open discussions, and the practical focus of the materials presented. All participants received certificates for participating in the conference, and the organizational support, technical support, and communication between participants were highly praised.

The conference made a significant contribution to the development of scientific thought and the formation of new approaches to strengthening maritime security, confirming the important role of the university community in addressing pressing international security issues.
