Oleksandra Tykul, a graduate of the “Barrier-Free Driving School” at the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs, successfully passed her practical exam at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center in Odesa and received her Category B driver’s license.

In 2022, the life of Odesa resident Oleksandra Tykul changed dramatically. While on a volunteer mission, she was involved in a serious traffic accident. She faced complex surgeries, the amputation of her right lower limb, and a long rehabilitation process that continues to this day. Today, Oleksandra has a Group II disability. But even after everything she’s been through, she hasn’t given up on an active life.

She continues to volunteer, help people, support those around her, raise two children, and provide for her family on her own.

Oleksandra learned about the possibility of learning to drive in a specially equipped vehicle while she was getting her medical certificate.

"I was very nervous. But when I got behind the wheel of a specially equipped car, I realized it was possible. “I’m truly grateful to the instructors, examiners, and staff at the Ministry of Internal Affairs service center for their support, kindness, and faith in me. This driver’s license means so much more to me than just a piece of paper. It’s freedom, independence, and the chance to be there for my children when they need me most,” Oleksandra shares.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ flagship project, “Barrier-Free Driving Schools,” is being implemented as part of First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska’s “No Barriers” initiative.
