The first year is not only the beginning of studies, but also the time when cadets determine the directions in which they want to develop. Representatives of the Department of Tactical and Special Training and the scientific and practical group "TST SHIELD" told the freshmen about the opportunity to gain additional practical experience, test themselves in teamwork and join the university traditions.

The "SHIELD" unit has been operating at the university since 2002. During this time, it has become one of the most famous centers for practical training of cadets, uniting those who seek to improve their professional skills not only in classes.

Head of the Department of Tactical and Special Training Tykhin Shevchenko emphasized that participation in the “SHIELD” is, first of all, an opportunity to test yourself in situations that are as close as possible to professional activity: “Here you have the opportunity not only to gain additional knowledge, but also to learn to act as a team, make decisions quickly, work in conditions of limited time and constantly improve yourself. It is these skills that later become the basis of the professional skills of a law enforcement officer.”

During the meeting, the first-year students learned how the training and research work of the group participants are conducted. The cadets practice tactical actions using paintball and airsoft equipment, simulation tools, and participate in tactical duels with representatives of other law enforcement agencies.

A separate direction is applied research related to the personal safety of police officers, the actions of small operational groups, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles, security psychology, and modern technologies in law enforcement activities.

The SHIELD members also take part in demonstration performances during university events and open days, represent the KhNUIA at sports and tactical paintball competitions, where they traditionally win prizes, and graduates represent Ukraine even on the international stage.

A special place in the traditions of the SHIELD is occupied by its symbols - patches, chevrons and tokens. They cannot be simply obtained or purchased: each sign is a kind of recognition of the perseverance, results and personal contribution of the cadet.
At the end of the meeting, the freshmen were invited to join the SHIELD. For those who are ready to work on themselves, develop professional skills and adopt the experience of mentors and graduates-special forces, this can be one of the first steps towards forming their own professional style of a future law enforcement officer.
