A professor from the OSUIA spoke at the Summer School on Responding to Conflict-Related Sexual Violence

Professor Iryna HLOVIUK, Ph.D. in Law and a professor in the Department of Criminal Procedure and Criminalistics, participated in the Summer School for Law Faculty Members titled “Effective and Trauma-Informed Teaching on Responding to Sexual Violence, ” held in Lviv and organized by the Association of Women Lawyers of Ukraine “YurFem” with support from the Sigrid Rausing Trust.

The Summer School program focused on the following areas: the concept of victim-centered justice; ensuring victim-centered approaches in cases of conflict-related sexual violence; conflict-related sexual violence at the intersection of human rights, international humanitarian law, and international criminal law; trauma, stigmatization, and victimization; gender-sensitive justice and conflict-related sexual violence; conflict-related sexual violence in international law; procedural aspects of pre-trial investigations into criminal offenses involving conflict-related sexual violence; integration of restorative justice principles into the system for working with victims of conflict-related sexual violence; “SWOT analysis” of opportunities for incorporating the topic of conflict-related sexual violence into the educational process (based on the Guide for Teaching the Course “Conflict-Related Sexual Violence”;  the electronic version is available at the following link: https://jurfem.com.ua/putivnyk/)

Iryna HLOVIUK spoke on the topic: “Procedural Aspects of Pretrial Investigations into Criminal Offenses Involving Conflict-Related Sexual Violence: International Standards and National Challenges.” The guest session was devoted to mechanisms for the protection of witnesses and victims: national practice, and focused on modern procedural tools for the protection of witnesses and victims in criminal proceedings, the specifics of their application in Ukraine, and current challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and courts in ensuring the safety of participants in the proceedings.
