НАВС

The Day of Remembrance of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, which is celebrated annually on February 20, was celebrated with solemn events at all locations of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. The Rector of the university, third-rank police general Valerii SOKURENKO, Vice-Rectors of the university, police colonels Serhii BORTNYK, Oleksandr MUZYCHUK, Directors of Educational and Research Institutes, employees and students honored the feat of those who in 2014, during the Revolution of Dignity, paid the highest price for freedom for Ukraine and its people – their lives.

The mass protests were provoked by the refusal of the then authorities to sign the Association Agreement with the EU. They grew into a large-scale resistance movement against corruption, usurpation of power and violation of citizens’ rights. The bloodiest events took place from February 18 to 20, 2014, when protesters on Instytutska Street in Kyiv opened fire. Among the dead were Ukrainians of different ages, social status and professions, as well as citizens of other countries.

On February 17, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada recognized the Revolution of Dignity as one of the key moments of Ukrainian statehood and an expression of the national idea of freedom.

Addressing the youth, the Rector of the university emphasized: “We must be worthy of the memory of our Heroes, as well as those who serve today, fight, and do everything to ensure that Ukraine remains on the map as a strong and independent state. There is no country in Europe more powerful than ours! Therefore, serve and study in such a way that people respect you and the Lord God protects you! Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the Heroes!”.
