A training camp for first-year cadets has begun at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs.

The official opening ceremony began with the presentation of the University Flag and the National Flag of Ukraine, the singing of the National Anthem of Ukraine, and a minute’s silence in honour of all those who gave their lives defending Ukraine and in the line of duty.

The university’s rector, Valerii Sokurenko, addressed the cadets. He congratulated the first-year students on the start of a new stage in their studies and emphasised the importance of the choice they had made during a difficult time for Ukraine.

"You have chosen the path of a law enforcement officer. And you have made this choice during difficult times. I am grateful to your parents for raising you, supporting you and giving you the opportunity to choose this path. You have enrolled at a higher education institution under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and your future service will involve the difficult trials that have befallen the entire Ukrainian people".

The Rector wished the cadets fortitude, perseverance and self-confidence, and encouraged them to navigate all stages of their professional development with dignity.

For first-year students, their first few days at university will mark the start of a new phase, filled with study, discipline and teamwork. During the training camp, cadets will learn the basics of drill, physical training, tactics, marksmanship and general legal training, and will take part in patriotic and cultural-educational activities.

The training camp will help first-year students adapt to their new way of life and develop teamwork skills, a sense of responsibility and discipline. It is with these very first steps that their professional journey and preparation for future service in the police force begin.
