International training on combating human trafficking launched at KhNUIA

A group of experts from the European Union Advisory Mission for Reforming the Civil Security Sector of Ukraine arrived at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs to conduct a three-day training seminar on combating human trafficking.

The EUAM delegation included Maans Enqvist, Senior Adviser on Investigation of Trafficking in Human Beings; Svetla Petrova, Adviser/Trainer on Criminal Investigations; as well as Criminal Investigation Officer Andrii Drahomeretskyi and Andrii Soroka.

The university’s academic community was represented by specialists in the fields of criminal law, criminal procedure, criminalistics, operational-investigative activities, and combating cybercrime from Educational and Research Institutes No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4.

The event was attended by cadets studying in the following programs: “Law (Police)”, “Cybersecurity and Information Protection (Security of Information and Communication Systems)”, “Information Systems and Technologies (Law Enforcement Information Systems)”, and “Law Enforcement (Police)”. In the future, they will work to identify and investigate crimes related to human trafficking.

Employees from the investigative units and the police activity monitoring sector of the MDNP in Khmelnytskyi Oblast joined the training.

Participants discussed international experience in combating human trafficking, practical investigation cases, the specifics of interagency cooperation, and the use of modern tools in the fight against this type of crime.

Artem Tkachenko, First Deputy Head of the Migration Police Department of the National Police of Ukraine, familiarized attendees with the structure of crimes related to human trafficking, provided practical examples of their detection and investigation, and outlined the specifics of international cooperation in combating this type of criminal offense.

On behalf of the university administration, participants were welcomed by Mykola Marchuk, Director of the Educational and Research Institute No. 4; Vitalii Romaniuk, Director of the Educational and Research Institute No. 1; and Tetiana Matiushkova, Head of the International Cooperation Department. They emphasized the importance of combating human trafficking and wished the participants productive work, constructive discussion, and an effective exchange of experience to improve practices for combating this type of criminal offense.
