«Ukrainian traditions and culture: plants, fabric, embroidery, attire»: a meeting for the Day of the Vyshyvanka at DSUIA

The event was organized by the Assistant to the Rector of DSUIA on Gender Issues, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Larysa Nalyvaiko.

Participation in the meeting was taken by cadets, students and employees of DSUIA, as well as representatives of the Dnipro Lyceum of Security Orientation and National-Patriotic Education named after O. Hostishchev of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The guest of the event was a member of the National Union of Folk Art Masters of Ukraine, artist, translator, author of numerous scientific works Halyna Khmel-Dunai, as well as other craftswomen, her students.

At the beginning of the meeting, Larysa Nalyvaiko addressed those present and emphasized that every vyshyvanka worn today is our quiet, but extremely powerful manifesto: “We are. We are united. We are unbreakable”.

Halyna Khmel-Dunai told the participants of the event about the history of Ukrainian art, the origin of vyshyvankas, and spoke in detail about patterns, their meaning, symbolism and sacredness.

The participants learned about the features of plant dyes, traditional embroidery techniques, regional differences of Ukrainian attire, as well as about the deep connection of embroidery with Ukrainian spirituality, amulets and the worldview of our people.

 

In addition, those present saw an exhibition of works by Halyna Khmel-Dunai and fabrics from which the artist creates vyshyvankas.

Such events contribute to deepening knowledge about the Ukrainian cultural heritage, the formation of national consciousness, patriotism and respect for the traditions of our people.
