The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language met with the staff of KhNUIA

During an online meeting with academic staff and higher education students, Taras Kremin, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language, called 2024 ‘the year of offensive Ukrainisation’ and outlined the tasks of the language ombudsman, focusing on the regulatory framework governing the use of the state language and the government institutions responsible for state language policy.

he speaker elaborated on the most common cases of violations of language legislation in the eastern, central and southern regions of Ukraine.
The Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language also focused on the language manipulations used by Russian propaganda in the development of information and psychological operations against Ukraine and the numerous facts of linguistic violence committed by the occupation authorities in the occupied Ukrainian territories.
Taras Kremin stressed the need to translate more than 600 international treaties ratified by Ukraine into the state language, as Ukrainian will soon become one of the official languages of the European Union.
‘It is up to you, as future lawyers,’ said Taras Kremin, ’to adapt national legislation to European legislation in Ukrainian, which in this context becomes not only a component of the socio-cultural dimension, but an integral factor in Ukraine's future in the EU.
Oksana Brusakova, Director of the ERI No. 5, thanked the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language for an important and informative conversation, during which Taras Kremin answered the participants' questions, focusing on the symbolic meaning of the Ukrainian language, which has become a powerful ideological weapon for every Ukrainian.
