OSUIA hosted an international scientific and practical conference entitled «Mediation in the professional activities of police officers during martial law and after Victory».

The event was organized by the Mediation Center of Odesa State University of Internal Affairs in cooperation with the European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine, the NGO «Culture of Democracy», and the NGO «South Ukrainian College of Mediators».

The conference brought together more than 70 participants: international experts, representatives of the domestic educational community, practitioners from the National Police of Ukraine, lawyers, mediators, representatives of public organizations, and the management of the Southern Interregional Center for the Provision of Free Secondary Legal Aid and Mediation.

The following speakers addressed the participants with welcoming remarks:
Maksym Korniienko – First Vice-Rector of OSUIA, Doctor of Law, Professor, Police Colonel;

Mariia Popova – Representative of the Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights in Odesa Region;
Georgios Pokas – Senior Advisor on General Police Activities, EUAM;

Liliia Matvieieva – Head of OSUIA Mediation Center, Head of the Department of General Legal Disciplines, Doctor of Law, Professor, Police Colonel.

The conference focused on the following topics: police mediation: from idea to results; mediation in the system of protecting the rights and interests of citizens; alternative methods of resolving legal disputes as part of the professional training of lawyers; interaction between law enforcement agencies and the free legal aid system in the context of the implementation of the project «Restorative justice program involving minors who are suspects or accused of committing criminal offenses».

The event was held as part of the Security Issues Center project, implemented by the Culture of Democracy NGO with the support of the Government of Canada under the «Women, Peace, and Security: From Local to Global» program, implemented by the Ukrainian Women's Fund.
