August 13, a panel discussion entitled «The role of libraries in shaping the National identity of Higher Education Students» was held at Odesa State University of Internal Affairs.

The event was attended by:
• Oleh Serbin, Director General of the Yaroslav Mudryi National Library of Ukraine;

• Iryna Nechytaliuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Ukrainian Literature at Odesa I.I. Mechnikov National University;

• Yevhen Zabiianov, Head of the Research and Promotion Department at the Ukrainian Book Museum of the M.S. Grushevsky Odesa Regional Universal Scientific Library;

• Kseniia Sorokina, librarian of the Department of Sociocultural Activities at the M.S. Grushevsky Odesa Regional Universal Scientific Library;

• Oleh Holovko, director of the «Helvetica» publishing house.

The following issues were discussed during the meeting:
national libraries as leading centers for the preservation and development of information resources of national importance;

libraries as social institutions with a mission to pass on a certain system of values to future generations, in particular the preservation of national independence and sovereignty;
the experience of libraries in shaping civic attitudes and national identity among young people;

partnerships between libraries and educational institutions, museums, and public organizations, as well as joint activities.
