НАВС

On 3-6 December, as part of the EUAM Civilian Security Sector Reform Project in Ukraine, the Odesa State University of Internal Affairs conducted a training on 'Community Conflict Management for Police Officers in Times of War'. The participants were 20 community police officers and district police officers from Kherson, Mykolaiv and Odesa regions.

The purpose of the training is to increase the level of professional competencies, strengthen the skills of police officers to effectively perform tasks to ensure the police's conflict management in communities during war and after the victory. Working with conflicts in the community was the central topic of discussion.

The trainers were:

- Diana Protsenko, mediator, trainer, honorary member of the National Association of Mediators of Ukraine, expert of OSCE dialogue projects;

- Polina Baltadzhy, trainer, mediator, coordinator of the Mediation Center of the State Internal Affairs Department.

Coordination support was provided by Lilia Matveeva, Head of the University Mediation Center.

The police officers had the opportunity to share their experience, receive support from colleagues and receive recommendations from trainers on communication tools in difficult security conditions.

The EUAM team was presented by Georgios Pokas, Senior Adviser on General Policing, and Jan Danco, Police Community Policing Trainer/Adviser introduced international practice and experience in dealing with conflicts in Ukraine during the war.

A separate session was devoted to the resource state of a police officer and methods of self-help. Practical psychologist Olha Vakulyuk-Lukashuk presented techniques for restoring resources.

Practicing communication skills, discussing complex issues in a common circle, working in groups, and reviewing the workbook allowed us to determine a further plan for the project.
