On January 21 the Diorama honored to the memory of the defenders of Ukraine died in the struggle for freedom and independence of Ukraine was unveiled at Odessa State University of Internal Affairs.
The defense of Donetsk Serhiy Prokofiev International Airport, which lasted 242 days, became a symbol of steadfastness and courage of the Ukrainian military, volunteers, medics and volunteers. Six years ago, on January 21, the military command decided to withdraw Ukrainian servicemen from the completely destroyed and unsuitable for the defense the building of Donetsk airport.
Those present during the ceremony observed a minute of silence in the memory of those who sacrified their lives during the struggle for the freedom, independence and territorial integrity of our State.
“The diorama is a symbol of the invincibility of "cyborgs", a tribute to those who have died in the battle with the invaders, is a reminder to each of us of the heroes who fought and continue to fight for independence of our state every minute, every day, often even at the cost of their own health and life ", - said the rector of the University Vyacheslav Abroskin.
In turn, Odesa and the Baltics Bishop Pavlo noted: “Unfortunately, the history of the Ukrainian people is depicted here. There are many pages like this in our historical memory and today we are experiencing one of them. On behalf of the Church, I would like to thank you personally and your wards, your cadets, because the work you do is invaluable for the preservation of our country, for the memory of those fallen soldiers who gave their lives and at the cost of their health stood for our peace".
"Future officers of the National Police are training here in these walls, people who will work directly in the streets not only of Odessa, but of the whole Ukraine. And it is very important that from the very first year of their study they see and know the events of modern warfare for the independence of Ukraine. Every nation in the world has either fought, or is fighting, or will one day fight for its independence. Now we are on this path together, so it is very important for the cadets of such educational institutions to know and be well aware of all these events, which is an important element of national memory" said Serhiy Hutsalyuk, the head of the Southern Interregional Branch of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory.
On behalf of the cadets of the University, the platoon commander of the faculty of training specialists for criminal police units shared his impressions: “For us, the young generation of defenders, this is an example of courage, heroism and steadfastness. We, the cadets of the Odessa State University of Internal Affairs, are proud of our soldiers, because thanks to them, we can go to school and smile at our relatives and colleagues. I am convinced that Ukraine will get rid of this yoke of war, because we are a freedom-loving nation. So, I wish us all good health, peace and confidence in the future. "
