On February 10, the internship of master's students of the faculty of training specialists for the pre-trial investigation bodies in the form of a police quest was defended at Odessa State University of Internal Affairs.
Protecting an internship with elements of a police quest is an effective method of testing the theoretical knowledge and acquired practical skills that are needed by applicants for higher education in further professional activities. The police quest is based on a situational method, the substantive part of which is aimed at mastering the algorithm of actions related to the implementation of their official tasks as an investigator.
The purpose of the police quest involves a complete immersion in the storyline, based on the content of specific modern plots of official activities and the implementation of active actions aimed at achieving the goal and decision-making based on the analysis of the situation.
The students of the magistracy were offered a thorough plot of the crime (murder), where at four locations they were asked to carry out the necessary investigative (search) and other procedural actions. Thus, at the modern training grounds, which were put into operation in 2020, the scientific and pedagogical staff of the departments of criminal procedure, as well as criminology and psychology arranged the appropriate trace picture, typical situation, participants of investigative (search) actions and more.
1.The "Crime Scene Search" location was an unfinished building, where the following picture of the murder was reproduced on the ground floor: a body with many knife wounds and a severed head, a knife hidden, several fire holes in the wall, food and alcohol. Task: seach the scene and give investigative versions.
2. The “Search” location (the residence of the suspect) was located in a furnished interactive training ground, where a severed head, a pistol, a mobile phone and a laptop with a murder plan were hidden in one of the rooms. Task: to search, inspect objects and computer equipment.
3. The location of the "Investigator's Office" was a place where it was necessary to conduct a personal search of the suspect, his detention and interrogation.
4. Location "Witness. Recognition "was located in a special landfill of double forensic psychological purpose" Child-friendly room. Landfill of non-visual recognition ". Task: to interrogate a minor witness and non-visual identification.
An online video conference was set up to visualize the locations for the commission.
After completing the tasks, the master's students presented their work in the form of: procedural documents (protocols, photo tables, resolutions etc.), packaged physical evidence, as well as a system of investigative versions.
Summing up and giving an assessment, the Rector of the University Vyacheslav Abroskin, members of the commission and a representative of the National Police - Deputy Head of the Organizational and Methodological Department of the Investigative Department of the GUNP in Odessa region, Major Sergei Savchenko noted that the police quest, as the latest interactive educational technology to check the skills of investigators acquired during the internship and their competence in various situations is close to the real ones.
Quest technologies should be actively introduced into the educational process as a form of practical training for future police officers.
