KhNUIA: Barrier-free driving school – the path to independence
НАВС

Ukrainian defender Dmytro Petrenko served in the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo Halytskyi, but in November 2023, he was seriously wounded. He is now learning to drive at the barrier-free driving school of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs. For Dmytro, this is not just learning to drive, but a way to regain his freedom, independence, and confidence in everyday life.

“Driving skills are another step towards maintaining independence and control over my own life,” Dmytro shares.

The barrier-free driving school was created for defenders of Ukraine who have suffered injuries to their musculoskeletal system. Everything here has been thought out down to the smallest detail: ramps, a pneumatic lift, inclusive premises, specially equipped vehicles, experienced instructors, and support at every stage of training.

“I know how important it is not to stop. If my story inspires someone to take their first step, then everything I do is worth it,” says Dmytro.
His journey is a reminder that new opportunities arise when you are not afraid to move forward.
