Alina Ruzhynska, student of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, took part in an offline training on the training of members of the public, who will be involved in visits to places of detention within the framework of the functioning of the National Preventive Mechanism (NPM).

The training was conducted by Vira Yakovenko, experienced Monitor of the NPM, Member of the board and Head of a separate division of the NGO «Ukraine without torture» in Poltava region. Valery Hrets, Trainer and Monitor of the NPM, Head of the unit of this public organization in Kherson region, also joined the practical interviewing classes.

During the event, the participants worked out the practical skills necessary for conducting monitoring visits: compliance with ethical norms and principles of monitoring, the structure of its road map, planning and organization of visits. Particular attention was paid to the prevention of professional burnout and the development of stress resistance of monitors.
Participants who have successfully completed their studies will be recommended to receive instructions from the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to carry out visits to places of detention within the framework of the implementation of the NPM.
The training took place in Poltava under the organization of the NGO «Ukraine without torture» together with the Office of the Ombudsman of Ukraine and with the support of the International Foundation «Renaissance».
