As part of the activities of the Financial Literacy Centre at Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs (KhNUIA) and its innovative educational multimedia project, a new information and awareness-raising video entitled “Money Mule: Money Muling That Could Cost You Your Freedom” has been produced.
The video focuses on one of the pressing threats in today’s digital financial environment – the recruitment of young people into money muling schemes, in which individuals are offered “easy money” in exchange for providing access to their bank card or account, receiving funds, and transferring them to other people.
Presented in an accessible, story-based format inspired by real-life situations, the video demonstrates how such schemes can begin, what offers and circumstances should raise red flags, and what legal and personal consequences may result from agreeing to participate in such activities without fully understanding the risks.
Particular attention is paid to developing young people’s ability to critically assess financial offers, identify potentially dangerous schemes, and act responsibly in the digital environment.
It is important for young people to understand that money muling is not “easy extra income” or a safe way to make money. It is an activity that may carry serious legal consequences and have a lasting negative impact on a person’s future.
The educational video aims not only to raise awareness of the risks associated with money muling but also to develop practical skills that can help young people recognise dangerous offers in time and avoid becoming involved in illicit financial schemes.
The production of educational video materials is part of KhNUIA’s systematic efforts to enhance young people’s financial and digital literacy, promote a culture of safe financial behaviour, and prevent their involvement in illicit financial schemes.
